Ranch History

This natural wildlife habitat has been long sought after for hunting. For the first time in 65 years, Yolo Ranch is now available to the public on a two-day, minimum fee basis.

Established in 1943 by a father and son team from the old Scannell/Cochran stockyards of Oklahoma City, Ralph and his son Joe Scannell were the first ranch in the area producing the "Brangus" breed of cattle. Ralph looked for land while Joe was flying bombers in WWII. After five purchases they had approximately 5,000 acres of wooded sandhills in northwest Oklahoma, located almost equal distances from Ringwood, Fairview, and Okeene. Three miles border the Cimarron River.

The ranch has been in the same family for 65 years. The property is now owned by a family trust.

As the evolution of carcass genetics influenced the prime beef cattle industry, Yolo Ranch is now home to high quality Black Angus cattle producing some of the best Black Angus Beef stock steers and breeding heifers in the area (market top thus far).

However, this land was made for wildlife and is perfectly suited to the hunting/recreation industry. Ranch officials recognize this and have developed a five-star, first class experience to fill the discriminating outdoorsman's dream.
