At one period of time Yolo Ranch was a preferred choice for members of the Grand National Quail Club. Many national dignitaries and celebrities have been hosted on this property.
Past hunting pressure has been low and limited hunting under the present plan assures a rewarding outdoor experience. Harvests have been carefully monitored. Only five quality bucks were allowed to be harvested last year, and all were taken during muzzle-loading season. Large tracts of property adjacent to Yolo Ranch have also managed their Whitetail population well and have participated in the Department of Wildlife's DMAP program to maximize buck/doe ratios.
Rio Grande Turkey populations have always flourished at the ranch. Recent roost improvement programs ensure they will stay. Over 18 lb. birds with 7-8" beards are very common.
Our three acre spring-fed pond is crystal clear, 1/4 mile from the Cimarron River and attracts numerous ducks and geese. We are located on the north/south migration corridor and Great Salt Plains State Refuge is only a few miles north. The thousands of Sandhill Cranes will serenade you as they slowly drift looking for thermal drafts.
You will see rare birds in this habitat including the Painted Bunting and Yellow-headed Blackbirds.
Yolo Ranch participates in the state DMAP program. This manages Whitetail ratios and allows relaxed limits on does the entire month of December for gun in addition to primitive season.
You simply purchase extra DMAP tags or if you have a lifetime license we simply give you a DMAP tag at the ranch.
This program also allows the landowned to act as the game check station. You never have to leave the ranch!
